The short answer

Squarespace costs less in cash if you pay yearly. Its Basic plan is CA$21 a month on an annual plan, about $756 over three years, or CA$30 a month paid monthly, about $1,080. Bildz is about $945. But on Squarespace you build and look after the website yourself, while Bildz designs it for you if your application is accepted.

Cost

Paid yearly, Squarespace's Basic plan is CA$21 a month, or about $756 over three years, which is less than the roughly $945 Bildz costs. Paid monthly, Basic is CA$30 a month, or about $1,080 over three years, which is more.

Basic doesn't include Squarespace's announcement bar, which it suggests for things like sales or changes to your hours. That's on Core, at CA$32 a month paid yearly.

The bigger cost with Squarespace is your time. You pick a template, write every page, choose and edit the photos and keep the site current. If you enjoy design work, Squarespace's templates are a strong starting point. If you'd rather not do it, that's the work Bildz does for you.

Choose Squarespace if

  • You want to design the website yourself and have strong opinions about how it looks.
  • You want to sell products or services online, with payments built in.
  • You need more than five pages, a blog, or extras like video hosting.
  • You're comfortable keeping the site up to date in a website editor.

Choose Bildz if

  • You don't want to choose a template, write every page and arrange the photos yourself.
  • You want to see a finished, professionally designed website before committing to anything.
  • You want to make changes by describing them in plain English, then review them before they go live.
  • You run a small service business that needs up to five pages and no online store.

Bildz reviews every application and may decline projects that aren't a good fit. Full details are on the free website offer page, and our website cost guide compares Bildz with local web designers.
